A New Relationship For The Council And The VCSE

How many times have you felt frustrated by the way the Council has dealt with (or seemingly ignored) issues affecting your organisation? In recent years the ‘us and them’ feeling has been a common complaint among much of Harrow’s Voluntary and Community sector, particularly when financial cutbacks have led to reduction and loss of grant funding.

Fortunately, the Council recognises this and is doing something about it. They want a new relationship with the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise sector and have worked hard in recent months with representatives of the sector to develop a way forward. Those of us who have been involved so far see it as a genuinely helpful attempt to strengthen the relationship, and we strongly recommend that you come to see for yourself at the launch. Find out about the transformation in thinking which is designed to make working with the Council a much more positive experience than it has been in the past.

You may be pleasantly surprised…

This is an event for Harrow Council and the Voluntary, Community & Social Enterprise (VCSE) in Harrow.

It will launch the report by Rocket Science [Executive Summary.pdf] on how the VCSE and Council need to strengthen their relationship and work better together for the benefit of Harrow residents. Participants will hear from the report author, the Council and the VCSE and contribute to planning the next steps on the journey to a new, stronger relationship.

The focus initially will be on five areas as recommended in the report:

  1. How the Council and the VCSE work together: Values and behaviours
  2. The Adult Social Care Crisis: co-creating a new model
  3. How to increase business investment into the community through social value
  4. Making the most out of the buildings, spaces and people in the borough
  5. A more co-ordinated approach to external funding
